Next-level 3D Modeling: Introduction to 3D Scanning

Join us to learn more about 3D scanning, including practical applications of 3D modeling, and then learn how to use the EdTech Incubator’s new Einstar Vega 3D scanner.

September 18, 2025
2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn how 3D scanners work
  • Get hands-on instruction with the Einstar Vega
  • Discover practical applications for 3D modeling—from prototyping to digital archiving
  • Walk away with your own scanned models and new skills!

This workshop is open to anyone with an interest in or curiosity about 3D scanning. No previous experience needed!

  • All-in-One Handheld Scanning Powerhouse The Einstar Vega integrates dual projection technologies (VCSEL for long-range, MEMS for high-detail short-range), plus onboard processing, storage, and a touchscreen—eliminating the need for a separate PC during scanning.

  • Dual Scan Modes for Versatile Applications
    • HD Mode (MEMS): Offers precision scanning with point accuracy down to ~0.05 mm, ideal for small-to-medium objects at 100–350 mm working distance and up to ~15 fps.
    • Fast Mode (VCSEL): Covers medium-to-large objects from ~350–1500 mm at faster speeds up to ~20 fps.

Introduction to 3D Printing in the ETI

to
Prior 405D
3D Printing Lab

Introduction to 3D Printing is a basic workshop to help participants learn how to use the 3D Printing Zone, a space located in the EdTech Incubator (ETI). Participants will be briefed on the fundamentals of 3D printing: how to set up a model, printing a model, and how to clean/maintain the 3D printing station.

No prior knowledge of the 3D Printing Zone is required. This training is a pre-requisite to booking the 3D Printing Zone for the first time. All participants who successfully complete this workshop will subsequently have access to reserve the 3D Printing Zone for future use.

To find out more about the capabilities of the 3D Printing Zone and read more about how this space is being used, please visit the 3D Printing space webpage on the ETI Incubator website.

This workshop will be repeated on a monthly basis.

Questions about the workshop? Email the ETI coordinator at mo.duncan@osumc.edu.
