The EdTech Incubator Participates in Anatomy Outreach Days

Author: Mo Duncan, ETI Coordinator

Anatomy Outreach Days through The Ohio State University College of Medicine are a three-day event for high school students from around the Columbus area. Different high schools rotated at stations throughout the Anatomy buildings and the EdTech Incubator (ETI) on the fourth floor of Prior Hall.

The ETI had one high school on the first day, two on the second day and two on the last day. The first day we had a small group that we ran through the VH Dissector VR software in the Anatomy Visualization Zone using our Vario VR headset and Sectra table. This allows students to see a fully digitally scanned body within VR and isolate different parts of its anatomy. The VR headset is a 3D experience and the Sectra table is a 2D experience.

We split the larger groups in two on the second and third day to run through both VH Dissector and 3D Organon VR Anatomy software on the Quest headsets. Halfway through the session, we traded groups to allow more students to interact with the anatomy visualizations.

Students also saw a slideshow of First Responder – a software developed by The Ohio State University’s College of Medicine, the Emergency Medicine Department, and The Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD). – used for training field and emergency medics, and instructors learned more about how anatomy software is currently being used in higher education settings.

It was a busy three days at the EdTech Incubator and we are already looking forward to the next set of Anatomy Outreach Days.
